Collect Your Creativity
I wanted to continue my share of Martha Beck's Beyond Anxiety this week, sharing a concept I absolutely adore.
Martha describes growing up in rural Utah and every lady had a "rag bag" of scraps of fabric from this or that. They were always mismatched and you never knew what was going to be there or if they'd be sewn into a rug or a little part of a quilt.
Her idea is that we need to create our own rag bag with little hits of what make us happy. This can take whatever form works best for you-- maybe it's a little notebook, maybe you have a Pinterest board of your favorite things. Or if you're like me, I put a note widget on my home screen on my phone.
The idea with our rag bag is that we jot down anything that piques our interest-- maybe seeing a beautiful flower makes you wonder what you're going to plant in the spring. Maybe you enjoy watching or playing a sport. Maybe you envy making insta-worthy dinners.
The possibilities are endless, because creativity is endless. You can be in the lowliest of places and still find beauty. In fact, sometimes the best creativity comes from those places.
This exercise is designed to flex that right brain (our creative side) and assist you in changing the way you tackle a problem or find a solution to something. It may lead to only happy thoughts & a smile or it may lead to much more.
Here's to letting our right brains drive for a while,
Laura
